Dog bite investigated at Cambria winery

Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were called to a winery on Baer Road about 4 p.m. Sunday to investigate a dog bite complaint.

A winery representative told deputies that a customer had gone into a fenced-in area housing three West Highland white terriers, commonly known as Westies, without permission and had been bitten. He said he suspected it may have been a dog that had a sore ear due to an ear infection. The dog's is current on its vaccinations.

The deputy spoke to the victim, a 28-year-old Amherst woman, who stated an employee did give her permission to enter the enclosure, as long as they did not tease the dogs. While playing with the dogs, the woman said she was bitten in the area of her left eyebrow.

While the dogs all looked similar, they were each wearing a different colored bandana and the woman said the dog that bit her was either wearing a blue or yellow bandana. There was no word on what color bandana the dog with the sore ear was wearing.

An EMS crew was on the scene bandaging the woman's wound when deputies arrived. The woman said EMS personnel offered to take her to a hospital but she declined and she would check with her own doctor.

The deputy said a report would be forwarded to the Niagara County Health Department.
