Police arrest driver at gunpoint
A Lockport police detective and Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies made an arrest at gunpoint of a hit-and-run suspect on Lincoln Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Raymond K. Black Jr. 49, Town of Lockport, was charged with driving while intoxicated, with two previous offenses; first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and refusal to take a breath screening test. Black was held on $5,000 bail and is to return to Town of Lockport Court on Wednesday.
According to the sheriff department report, the deputy received the report of a vehicle hitting a tree on Kinne Road and the driver drove away. Lockport police.
Detective Schreader caught up with the blue van on Lincoln Avenue and the deputy arrived shortly after. Black was ordered out of the car at gunpoint by Schreader.
Black followed directions. He said he was going home from a roofing job, but was he was traveling away from Kinne Road which was his home address.
Black was swaying back and forth. His speech was slurred and he failed field sobriety tests. He refused to take a breath screening test.
Black was transported to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony driving while intoxicated for his two prior convictions, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and refusing to take a breath screening test.
Dogs die in house fire
A pair of pets perished in a house fire in the Town of Porter Thursday night.
Fire companies from Youngstown and Ransomville responded to the blaze, 9 p.m., in a home in the 1500 block of Lake Road.
The fire was quickly brought under control and no one was home at the time. Two dogs were discovered dead inside the home.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
