Identity thief's arrests trouble Lockport woman

A Lockport woman reported to Niagara County Sheriff's deputies Monday that she was recently informed someone is using her identity in Ohio.

The woman said earlier this month she was attending a retirement ceremony at a military base and was turned away at the gate because of several arrests in Ohio.

The security check revealed a woman by the same name, date of birth and social security number had, in one instance, been arrested in 2010, possibly in Franklin County. The check also revealed the woman charged was black while the Lockport woman is white.

The Lockport woman said she contacted her bank and credit card companies to advise them of the situation. She also checked a copy of credit report and all appeared to be in order.

Sheriff's investigators are handling the matter.
