Niagara County Sheriff's officials are investigating a claim by a 22-year-old Newfane woman that she was pulled over on Ewings Road by someone who wasn't a police officer.

The woman said she was driving on Coomer Road about 12:45 a.m. Sunday and was being followed closely by a 2000 model pickup. The woman said she pulled aside and the truck passed her.

A short time later, she was driving down Ewings Road when the truck appeared behind her again and began following her. The woman said she then saw red and blue lights flashing on the top of the truck and pulled over.

A man approached and said he was "road patrol." He asked fro her license and asked if she had been drinking. The man took her ID, went back to the truck, turned off the flashing lights and sat in the cab with her license for about 5 minutes.

The man eventually brought back the license and said "just be careful."

Sheriff's dispatchers said at no time Sunday morning did anyone call in the woman's license plate number or run the vehicle's information.
