FIRE CALLS: Niagara Falls fire reports published Nov. 10

For the period of Oct. 29 to Nov. 4, the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to 134 calls. The total number of service calls for 2012 to date is 5,350.

 
• FIRE: On Oct. 29, an electrical malfunction in a machine at an industrial facility caused a fire, at 5:53 a.m., that dispatched a full assignment from Platoon 2 to the 3100 block of Highland Avenue. The fire was quickly extinguished and damage was estimated at $2,000.

 
• FIRE: On Oct. 29, a fire in a roof top heater, at 11:19 a.m., at a restaurant in the 700 block of Portage Road sent Platoon 1 to the scene. A fan unit had stopped working and set fire to the insulation around the unit. Damage was limited to $1,000.

 
• ACCIDENT: On Oct. 29, a four car accident at the intersection of Niagara Falls Boulevard and Packard Road, at 1:29 p.m., required Platoon 1 to respond. The “Jaws of Life” were utilized by the crew of Truck 1, consisting of Captain John Carey, Firefighters Joe Pedulla, Frank Cacciatorre and Kevin Dobmeier, to extricate a patient from one vehicle and a total of two patients were transported to area hospitals. Two other victims declined transport.

 
• HURRICANE SANDY: City leaders held multiple meetings with key department in advance of the Hurricane Sandy storm to prepare for emergency situations that might arise. The high winds did cause numerous power lines to come down and arc and for some transformers to catch fire. Although some parts of the city lost power for a while, no serious incidents were reported.

 
• FIRE: On Nov. 2, Engine 3 and Truck 1 went to a call of a bulldozer on fire, at 10:56 a.m., in the 2100 block of College Avenue. A mechanical malfunction caused the fire which caused $30,000 damage.
