Falls man who escaped custody on Tuesday, surrendered Thursday

Niagara Gazette — An accused Falls drug dealer is now behind bars after his escape from investigators with the U.S. Marshals Service Felony Fugitive Task Force.

Adaberto Olivieri-Perez walked in to the Niagara County Courthouse Thursday afternoon and surrendered to task force investigators without incident.

"We were told at some point (Thursday) he might turn himself in," Niagara County Undersheriff Michael Filicetti said. "We wanted to make sure we were ready to take him into custody."

Olivieri-Perez had been on the run since he escaped during an incident involving Niagara County Sheriff's Office investigators, assigned to the task force, in the Falls on Tuesday morning.

“A number of our (deputies) are assigned to the Marshal’s Task Force and they were working in the Falls (Tuesday), cleaning up some warrants,” Filicetti said. “They picked up (Olivieri-Perez) and he was placed in the back of a car.”

Somehow, Olivieri-Perez was able to get out of the police vehicle and run from investigators. That touched off an immediate manhunt.

Filicetti said an investigation into the escape was continuing.

Olivieri-Perez, 23, had been sought on a felony drug warrant.

He was arraigned on that charge in County Court on Thursday afternoon and ordered held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
