BLOTTER: Police reports published Dec. 3




13 DWIs, 1,346 tickets issued during Thanksgiving initiative

Over the five-day period of a Thanksgiving Holiday traffic initiative, New York State Police in Troop A  made 13 arrests for driving while intoxicated and issued 1,346 tickets including 402 for speeding and 114 for distracted driving. 

Numerous traffic enforcement details were conducted. Troop A covers the eight western counties of the state had extra troopers patrolling from Nov. 27 to Sunday.

“The primary goal of the traffic safety initiative is to deter unsafe driving behaviors and to raise the public awareness of the importance of traffic safety during one of the peak travel weekends of the year” said Troop A Traffic Supervisor Sergeant Joseph Wilkinson.

The details consisted of sobriety checkpoints to target impaired drivers, underage drinking details, distracted driver details as well as speed enforcement.

• THEFT: Officers are looking into an SUV break-in in the 2400 block of South Avenue. A 21-year-old man told police that sometime between 9 p.m. Saturday and 9:58 a.m. Sunday someone broke into his 2003 Saturn Vue by unknown means. The victim said assorted clothing, a portable DVD player and five DVDs were taken.

• THEFT: Police are investigating an SUV break-in in the 8600 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard. A 53-year-old man told officers he went into a restaurant at 3 p.m. Sunday and came out, three minutes later, to check and make sure his vehicle was locked. He discovered that someone had smashed the driver's-side front window on his 2004 GMC Envoy. The victim said a suitcase, containing a camera, a DVD player and clothing was taken. A witness saw a man getting out of the vehicle, with the alarm going off. The suspect then fled in a white Mercury Mountaineer being driven by a woman.


• DWI: Ryan C. Wentz, 23, of Tonawanda, was charged Sunday with driving while intoxicated. New York State Police said Wentz was charged after being stopped on Bear Ridge Road.
