BLOTTER: Police reports published July 27

Niagara Falls

• CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: A 16th Street resident told police that sometime early Thursday he discovered extensive damage to his motor vehicle, including the spray painting of a racial slur on its side. Reports indicated that the car had been keyed from front to back on the passenger side, hood, front bumper, back bumper and on the driver’s side from front to back, including the trunk and roof. Officers also observed red spray paint on the vehicle’s passenger side, including a racial slur. A peace sign had also been sprayed onto the vehicle’s hood, according to reports. Total damage was listed at $5,000. 

• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a report of a burglary at a local church. The pastor of a church located in the 1600 block of 22nd Street told police that he arrived on the premises Thursday evening to find someone had broken into a basement window. Upon further investigation, the pastor told police he found the door to an office had also been forced open. The victim reported numerous items stolen from inside, including a laptop computer, computer speakers, a printer and a computer monitor. The value of the stolen items was listed at $1,110 and the value of the damaged property was listed at $150. 

• LARCENY: A supervisor at the Hyde Park Golf course reported the theft of a golf cart this week. The victim told police he noticed two carts missing when he arrived at work at 6 a.m. Thursday. The supervisor told police he was later contacted by a groundskeeper who found one of the missing carts between the CSX railroad yard and hole 7 located on the north 18 course. The golf course workers also reported damage caused to the golf greens on hole No. 17 and reported that the flag on the hole was snapped apparently after it was run over by one of the missing golf carts. Tire marks on the greens were also reported. The supervisor told police such instances have been an ongoing problem in recent weeks. Value of the missing cart was listed at $5,800 and course damage was listed at $2,500.
