Driver ejected after Robert Moses Parkway crash

NIAGARA FALLS — An Amherst man was hospitalized after an accident on the westbound lane of the Robert Moses Parkway near the John B. Daly ramp about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Brian Smead of Amherst failed to maintain his lane and left the roadway on the north-side shoulder, striking a guide rail, according to New York State Police. He continued driving back across the roadway, striking a curb and snow bank. His vehicle went airborne and rolled, coming to rest in a snow-covered area near the eastbound lane.

Smead was ejected and found about 35 feet from the vehicle, state police said. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center by ambulance and was listed in stable condition.

The accident is being investigated and charges are pending.
