Lewiston police track down suspected burglar

Lewiston police responding to a burglary about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday arrested a woman after following her tracks left in the snow.

Called to the 9000 block of Elliott Drive, Officers Matthew Grainge and Lauren Campbell noted signs of a burglary and found tracks in the snow around the residence, near the back doors and windows. Inside the home, bedrooms had been ransacked and the resident reported numerous items stolen.

Lewiston K-9 Radar and Officer Scott Stafford responded and began tracking the suspect from the backyard of the home. The trail led through backyards and a wooded area and eventually to the home of the suspect, Jamie L. McGuire. Officers said more than $6,000 in stolen property was recovered.

McGuire, 32, was charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree grand larceny.

McGuire is also linked to a vehicle break-in on the 1000 block of James Drive over the weekend and further charges are pending, police said.

Officers said McGuire provided a full statement during an interview at the Lewiston Police Department.

New York State Police and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office’s ID unit assisted in collecting evidence.
