NIAGARA COUNTY

Fugitive caught in Arizona

A man who skipped town on the verge of his sex abuse trial in January has been caught.

Paul Turley and his wife were arrested by U.S. Marshalls Friday at a mobile home in Tuscon, Ariz.

He was arraigned on charges of fleeing from police. Additional charges are pending. Diane Turley was charged with hindering prosecution.

Authorities say Turley had also spent some time in Wisconsin, Michigan, and New Mexico, before he met up with a former acquaintance in Arizona.

That person is originally from Western New York. Police do not know if that person was aware that Turley was a fugitive.

A jury in Niagara County recently convicted the Dunkirk man for crimes police say happened in North Tonawanda in the mid- to late-1990s.

Turley had been on the run since he left the courtroom during a lunch break, before the trial jury was picked.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Homeland Security, and local authorities in Arizona helped with the case, according to a release.
