NT couple charged with stealing NCCC textbooks

A North Tonawanda couple is accused of stealing textbooks from Niagara County Community College, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Lisa M. Coleman, 33, and Ryan J. Lasky, 34, both of 341 Goundry St., were charged with petit larceny and sixth-degree conspiracy. Coleman was also charged with second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, while Lasky was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

According to the arrest report, NCCC security had Coleman in custody at just before noon Tuesday. Coleman reportedly admitted to a deputy that the couple took two textbooks, valued at $346.90. Amherst Town Court had issued an arrest warrant for Coleman as well, deputies said.

While trying to find Lasky, Coleman reportedly gave deputies the wrong name so to protect Lasky from an arrest. Coleman called Lasky to get him to return to NCCC, which he did and was arrested. Lasky had two controlled substances on him, the arrest report said.

The books were found in a bag under Coleman's vehicle, which was parked in the NCCC lot. Coleman reportedly said the two would take books and turn them in at "Bucks for Books" so to obtain cash for them. The money was used to buy drugs, she reportedly said.

Coleman was taken to the Niagara County Jail on $500 bail. Both appeared later Tuesday in Cambria Town Court.
