Niagara Gazette — A Depew man led Falls Narcotics detectives on a brief chase by car and by foot before being apprehended in the area of Pine Avenue and 22nd Street Wednesday afternoon.
Narcotics Division Capt. Dave LeGault said detectives had been looking at Eric J. Kinney of Depew as part of an ongoing investigation and knew he be armed.
“He’s somebody we’ve been watching for some time,” LeGault said.
Spotting Kinney on Pine Avenue about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, detectives tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Kinney kept driving for a couple blocks.
“There was a very short vehicle pursuit,” LeGault said.
Coming to a screeching halt, Kinney jumped from the vehicle and led Narcotics detectives on a brief foot chase but was caught by Det. Joseph Palermo after running through two or three nearby yards, LeGault said.
Inside the trunk of Kinney’s car, detectives found a .357 caliber revolver. Police also found an amount of cocaine.
Kinney, 32, 4751 Williams St., Depew, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and numerous traffic violations.
Kinney was also treated for a head laceration. When he jumped from his car, LeGault said, he dove through an open window of the vehicle, right into a rusty steel sign post. He was taken to a hospital by Rural Metro.
