HOUSE FIRE: The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a house fire on Old Tonawanda Creek Road around 8:40 a.m. Thursday. After confirming that the occupants had evacuated, a deputy entered the residence and discovered that smoke in the house was coming from the basement. The deputy and volunteers from Wendelville Fire Co. went through the house and determined that a defective forced air heater was emitting smoke. The power and gas to the heater were turned off and the appliance began to cool. No injuries or property damages were reported, the Sheriff’s Office said.
