Falls cops knock twice Wednesday during raids

Niagara Gazette — When it came to selling cocaine, one house just wasn't enough for Rashawn Martin.

So on Wednesday morning, Falls narcotics detectives raided not one, but two locations in the North End and walked away with guns and drugs and Martin in handcuffs.

"He was living in the 2000 block of Lockport Street, but rehabbing a home in the 1100 block of Niagara Avenue," Narcotics Division Capt. Dave LeGault said. "He was selling out of both locations, so we got search warrants for both places."

LeGault said detectives swooped in and grabbed Martin as he was leaving his home, around 10 a.m., and then executed the search warrants simultaneously. On Niagara Avenue, they recovered a digital scale and materials used to package drugs.

In the Lockport Street home, investigators seized five long guns, a magazine loaded with 9 mm ammunition, another digital scale and 2.5 ounces of powder cocaine.

"It was neighborhood complaints," LeGault said of what first drew detectives' attention to Martin. "Primarily the complaints were from Lockport Street, but then our investigation led us to Niagara Avenue as well."

The narcotics captain said the large number of guns in Martin's possession was no surprise.

"We always anticipate we'll find guns in situations like this," LeGault said. "In fact, now days were disappointed or surprised if we don't find guns (on a raid)."

Martin, 34, 2022 Lockport St., was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
