Coach, parent brawl on the field of youth baseball game

Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were called to the baseball field at Niagara County Community College about 9:45 a.m. Saturday for a fight between a parent and a coach.

The coach, a 49-year-old Lancaster man, said during the first inning of the game a parent came onto the field and began yelling and swearing at him about his child not playing.

The coach said both men were swearing at each other when the parent threw a punch, knocking the coach's hat off. The coach said he defended himself by throwing a couple of punches and taking the parent to the ground.

The coach said the parent got up and left the area with his child. The deputy got a hold of the parent by phone and he verified the coach's story.

Neither man wanted to file charges.

It wasn't stated what age the children were who were involved in Saturday's game.
