Investigation leads to hotel drug bust
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies investigating a traffic infraction were eventually led to a Niagara Falls Boulevard hotel where a Buffalo man was arrested on drug charges.
Deputies patrolling the Boulevard about 9 p.m. Wednesday pulled over a Buffalo man for driving without headlights. The man said another man staying at a Boulevard hotel had rented the car he was driving and directed police there.
At the hotel, William K. Peters, 68, of Buffalo, let deputies into his room where they spotted a glass pipe used for smoking marijuana. After questioning, Peters turned over a baggie of marijuana, some pills and said he had three-quarters of a pound of pot in an envelope.
Peters was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
Youths caught with stolen items
Falls police charged two men after they were caught pushing a shopping cart full of stolen construction items on Fairfield Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The owner of a business on the 2300 block of Fairfield Avenue told police he received a call Wednesday night that someone was leaving the area of the business with a shopping cart full of stolen items. He found the men pushing the cart at 21st Street and Ontario Avenue and followed them till they entered a South Avenue home.
Police searched the home and took the two youths into custody.
The cart was filled with three light fixtures valued at $300.
• THEFT: A South Avenue resident reported that sometime Tuesday night someone took the car battery out of their '06 BMW while it was parked unlocked in their driveway. The estimated loss is $300.
• VANDALISM: The owner of a business on the 1600 block of 10th Street reported to police that sometime Tuesday night someone threw an unknown object into one of the business' windows, damaging it. The estimated loss is $200.
