Police investigating car pulled from Hyde Park Lake

Niagara Gazette — Falls police say a car pulled from Hyde Park Lake, near Duck Island, on Monday was taken from a Buffalo man, but not reported stolen.

Workers stocking the lake with fish Monday morning made the discovery. The 2010 Toyota Camry was almost completely submerged, but could be seen from the shoreline.

North Tonawanda Police Dive Team teams entered the water and searched the vehicle, which was near Duck Island and the golf course, but found no one inside.

Police and firefighters stood by as the car was pulled from the water. The rear window of the vehicle has been smashed out in an apparent attempt to make the car sink faster.

No one was found in the car and a search of the lake by the dive team turned up nothing out of the ordinary.

The car was traced to a Buffalo man who told police investigators his car was “taken” a few days ago, but was not stolen.

The vehicle was take to Falls Police headquarters where Crime Scene Unit detectives were examining it.
