Driver escapes injury in Lockport construction accident

A Town of Lockport resident escaped injury when a falling guide wire crashed onto his vehicle while he was stopped at the traffic light at Upper Mountain Road and Sunset Drive on Monday.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, excavation was taking place on the east side of Delphi/General Motors about noon, when the excavator struck and knocked down the guide wire, which was attached to a NYSE&G utility pole in the 5800 block of Upper Mountain.

The vehicle's roof and driver-side door sustained substantial damage but the driver was not hurt, the sheriff's office said.
