Several questions remain after shooting

Niagara Gazette — While LeAnne Tucker remains in critical condition at Erie County Medical Center, many questions remain from Wednesday's shooting/suicide in Pendleton.

Tucker was shot in the face by her husband, Morris Tucker, 44, who then shot and killed himself. Their 3-year-old daughter was safely removed from the home on Campbell Boulevard.

Outside of the Kingsmen Motorcycle Club on Oliver Street in North Tonawanda, the flag Thursday was flown at half staff. According to Channel 4 News, Morris was a member there and may have been at an all-night gathering there that lasted till about 7 a.m. Wednesday — hours before he shot LeAnne.

The incident triggered a near three-hour standoff near the intersection of Campbell Boulevard and Saunders Settlement Road. LeAnne Tucker flagged down motorists after being shot and was taken to ECMC. The toddler came out of the house at police urging and is in the care of relatives.

Morris Tucker was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A 9-mm semi-automatic rifle was located near his body.

How he had possession of the weapon is a question police are asking.

Tucker was convicted of first-degree assault in 1999 after shooting another woman in 1998 and served six years in the Gouverneur Correctional Facility in St. Lawrence County. He was not permitted to have a gun according to law.

"What is a convicted felon doing with a weapon of this sort, a semi-automatic assault rifle? Why does a convicted felon have that? And that's probably my biggest question right now," Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour told Channel 4.

No convicted felon is allowed to have a gun of any kind, so now the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is trying to trace the history of the gun that was used.
