Sheriff's office investigates pair of Wheatfield break-ins

A garage break-in and a car break-in right down the street are being looked into by Niagara County Sheriff's investigators.

Sheriff's deputies were called to a home a on the 2800 block of Lockport Road on Monday where a resident reported a garage on the property had been broken into.

The break-in occurred sometime Sunday night and a 2010 Polaris ATV was taken. In the trunk of the vehicle was a battery jumper kit, large hunting knife, stream light flashlight, spotlights for the ATV and a tow rope. Nothing else was taken from the garage. A window was smashed to gain entry to the garage.

The resident said he had just bought the ATV from a dealership on Friday and he did not have it registered or insured yet. 

An ID unit responded to the home to process the garage for evidence. The estimated loss is $11,275.

Just down the street, another resident reported that someone smashed a passenger-side window of their car parked behind their residence and took an iPod Touch.

Sheriff's deputies noted the proximity to the garage break-in and said the two incidents could be related. The ID unit responded to the car after finishing its work in the garage.
