Fundraising money reportedly taken from Wheatfield classroom

The owner of a Wheatfield child care center reported Monday that $350 was taken from an unlocked cabinet in a classroom at the facility.

Staff at the Commerce Court facility noticed the money missing from a classroom for 4-year-olds on Thursday. The owner said it was taken sometime between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. Thursday.

The money had been collected through a candy fundraiser for upgrades at the facility.

Deputies spoke with several employees about the missing money on Monday and the owner said every employee working during the timeframe of the theft will be take a polygraph test.

The deputy said sheriff's investigators will follow up on the matter.
