Niagara Falls police are investigating a vehicular assault incident Tuesday afternoon involving an ATV and a pickup truck.

A 19-year-old Falls man told police he was riding a three-wheeler along the train tracks off Buffalo Avenue about 4 p.m. and entered the roadway near 24th Street and Cudaback Avenue to return home.

As he was riding on the street, a red Dodge Ram truck drove up from behind him, narrowly hitting him. The truck pulled in front of him and stopped and a man with a pony tail got out and attempted to punch him.

The ATV rider told police he knew the man but it was not stated why the attack occurred.

The rider said he drove off and the truck began to chase him. The rider drove onto a sidewalk to keep from getting hit by the truck and then cut through a lawn at 30th and Falls streets to escape the truck, but the man drove the truck onto the lawn too, striking the ATV and knocking the rider off.

The man from the truck then pulled out a knife and stabbed the right rear tire of the ATV. He then took two swings with the knife at the rider but missed both times before getting back in the truck and driving off.

The rider gave the license plate number of the truck to police and they tracked it to a Mackenna Avenue address where a family confirmed that the man identified to police by the rider had been driving the truck.

The rider told police he believed he had broken ribs and was going to the hospital.
