Narcotics detectives say recent dealer arrested ' just wouldn't stop selling drugs'

Niagara Gazette — A Falls man that narcotics detectives say “wouldn’t stop dealing” drugs is back behind bars again.

Investigators said they picked up Jonathan Bersani after they watched him make a drug sale at the corner of 10th Street and Niagara Avenue late Monday afternoon.

“He has been on our radar for a while,” Falls Narcotics Capt. Dave LeGault said. “He just continues to sell and he won’t stop.”

According to investigators, Bersani was selling crack cocaine out of his Miller Road home and had recently begun to make street corner sales as well.

“On Monday, he was a passenger in a vehicle we had under surveillance,” LeGault said. “The vehicle pulled up (to 10th Street and Niagara Avenue) and the detectives saw him make a hand-to-hand (drug) sale.”

Bersani was taken into custody and detectives found him in possession of 5.5 grams of crack cocaine.

“This was a prolonged surveillance involving him, so naturally we were glad to get him off the street,” LeGault.

Bersani, 21, 4715 Miller Road, Apt. 1, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence.

At the time of his arrest, Bersani was free on his own recognizance on a drug indictment in Niagara County Court. There, Bersani faces three counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

He was indicted by a county grand jury after he made three sales of crack cocaine in November to a confidential informant working with the Niagara County Drug Task Force.

Bersani posted $2,500 bail in Falls City Court after his Monday arrest.

On Thursday, County Court Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas raised Bersani’s bail to $10,000 on his grand jury indictment. He was taken into custody in the courtroom and taken to Niagara County Jail.
