Leads still sought in Falls murder case

Niagara Gazette — Falls police detectives say they're still in need of help from the public to crack the city's latest murder case.

Investigators said Thursday they've received some help from the community, but could use more specific leads.

"We're hoping for a really good tip," Detective Lt. Mike Trane said. "We've gotten some information, but not enough."

Witnesses told detectives they heard five to seven gunshots as an assailant rolled up on a man outside of his Ashland Avenue home and shot and killed him early Saturday morning. Investigators are still hoping someone may have seen the shooting and be able to provide a description of the gunman or the vehicle he was in.

Officers responded to the shooting calling in the 1300 block of Ashland Avenue just before 5 a.m. Sunday and when they arrived on the scene, they found Joseph Medley Sr., 37, laying on the ground in front of his home.

Despite the report of multiple gunshots, Medley had suffered just a single gunshot wound to his upper body. He was rushed to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Trane said investigators "really can't say right now" what the motive for the shooting might have been.

Anyone who may have specific information about the shooting or a suspect is asked to Falls police investigators at 286-4553.
