Bank robbery accomplice arrested

NIAGARA FALLS —

Law enforcement officers from Lockport, Niagara Falls, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office and Federal Parole officers converged at Niagara Falls Boulevard on Monday near the I-190 ramp to arrest the suspected get-away driver in Friday's M&T Bank holdup.

James M. Williams, 30, 17 Tudor Lane, was charged with third-degree robbery, third-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy. The Rochester native, who was on parole, was held without bail at his arraignment before Judge William Watson on Tuesday morning. Wiiliams was taken to the Niagara County Jail and is scheduled to return to court Wednesday.

Joseph Trusello of Niagara Falls, was charged in the actually bank holdup on Monday and cooperated with the Lockort police to set up the meeting with Williams, according to Detective Captain Richard L. Podgers.

On Friday, police say Trusello entered the M&T Bank on Walnut and Pine streets and demanded money. No weapon was displayed and the suspect was seen fleeing on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. Trusello was arrested at a half-way house on Memorial Parkway in Niagara Falls on Sunday and interrogated by police on Monday. After interrogation, Trusello identified Williams as his accomplice and set up a meeting in the Falls.

Police, who were heavily armed, pulled up along Wiliams' car about 6 p.m. and made the arrest. It was "awesome," Podgers said.

Trusello was arraigned Monday night and is being held on $25,000 bail.
