Teen hits classmate with SUV

A Kenmore teen was arrested Friday after police said she ran over a classmate with an SUV during a fight.
Town of Tonawanda Police Lt. Nick Bado said the fight between the two girls, 18-year-old Liana Nieves and a 17-year-old student began over social media.
“These two girls were continuing an argument on Facebook, Twitter and text messages,” he said.
The two teens, who both attend Kenmore West, then met on Chaplin Drive in the town. Nieves got out of her car, police said, and the two had an argument in the street.
“Some things were said about the car,” Bado said. “The victim may have said ‘why don’t you run me over with the car?’ ‘“
Nieves got back into the SUV and the other girl followed her to the vehicle in an attempt to incite a fight. She knocked on the driver’s window, and then made her way in front of the vehicle.
“Nieves pressed on the gas, and struck the victim, sending her body tumbling away from the vehicle,” Bado said. “According to witnesses, she then continued to coast, and drove over her body again.”
The teen was taken to Erie County Medical Center with injuries to her pelvis and spine. Although the injures were described as serious, she was listed in fair condition as of Monday afternoon.
Nieves fled the scene, but police were able to locate her at her Kenmore home. Bado said she agreed to come into the station to give a statement, and police then charged her with first-degree assault. She was arraigned on the charge over the weekend and is now being held at the Erie County Holding Center.
