Three charged after drive-by shootings in the Falls

Niagara Gazette — Falls police are trying to determine what triggered a trio of drive-by shootings, first in the North End and then in the South End, early Thursday morning.

When the bullets stopped flying, two men were in custody in connection with the shootings, while a third faced felony drug possession charges.

Officers responded to calls of shots fired in the 2700 bock of 20th Street just after midnight. One witness told police they heard at least six gunshots and then discovered that the bullets had come smashing through a living room window.

Four adults and a teen were in the home when the bullets hit. None of them were injured.

Another witness told police they saw a "dark colored Pontiac" driving down the street just before the gunfire started.

Less than half an hour later, officers responded to another call of multiple gunshots in the 400 block of 18th Street.

A witness told investigators that they and two children were sleeping on the first floor of a home when they heard about eight gunshots and took cover. Two other adults were upstairs in the home at the time of the shooting.

One of the children on the first floor told police they saw "two black males standing on the porch (of the home) with masks on, immediately before the shooting occurred." Another witness told police that a blue SUV had been driving past the house, repeatedly, during the day.

At least six bullets shattered the two front living room windows of the home.

At just after 4 a.m., officers received a call of yet another drive-by shooting, this time in the 1600 block of Niagara Street. When police arrived they found a 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his left thigh.

The victim told officers he was walking west on Niagara Street and had turned north on to 16th Street when a maroon car turned on to the street behind him and someone fired at him twice. The victim said he was struck by the first shot.
