Lockport woman charged with stealing fire company funds

Niagara Gazette — New York State Police made an arrest Monday in a case involving funds stolen from South Lockport Volunteer Fire Co.

Jackie L. Briggs, 39, of Lockport, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, after a two-month investigation, the police agency announced Tuesday.

Briggs is suspected of receiving at least six checks, dated back to 2011 and made payable to her, from the fire company's auction fund, that were not associated with legitimate transactions. According to the agency, Briggs admitted to forging signatures on four checks and using the funds for her personal benefit. The fire company's loss is estimated to be more than $2,000.

Briggs received a ticket to appear in Lockport Town Court on July 10.
