A Niagara Falls man was arrested after Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on the 2700 block of Lake Road about 6 p.m. Thursday for a report of a suspicious man walking around the property.
When deputies arrived, they found a pickup truck parked on the side of the road in front of the home. A deputy checked out the unoccupied truck and found a black computer case on the floor of the truck.
The suspicious man, identified as Kristopher L. Buehler, was found in the backyard of the home. Deputies removed a small knife and a small amount of marijuana from him and asked him what he was doing there. Buehler said he had knocked on the front door and went around back to knock on the back door to see if anyone could help him with his "broken down truck."
He further told deputies he had driven to Wilson with his mother to look for apartments when his truck broke down. A friend drove up to pick his mother up and bring her to the Falls and he was waiting for her to return with a mechanic.
Deputies asked for permission to search the truck and interviewed neighbors who said they'd seen Buehler carrying a white garbage bag from the Lake Road home to his truck. The homeowner is on vacation, the witness added.
Deputies were able to contact the homeowner who gave permission to search the home and stated that two long guns were in a front closet. Deputies searched the home and could not find the guns.
When deputies searched Buehler's truck, they found a blue tarp covering two long guns and a woman's purse filled with ammunition.
Buehler, 28, 1814 18th St., Niagara Falls, was charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property involving firearms, fourth-degree grand larceny involving firearms, petit larceny and possession of marijuana.
