Deputies uncover mobile meth lab in Lockport

Niagara Gazette — A Niagara County Sheriff's deputy uncovered a mobile meth lab operating on the Erie Canal towpath, under the Day Road Bridge, in Lockport early Sunday.

Investigating a suspicious vehicle parked under the bridge just before 1 a.m. Sunday, the deputy found three people in the 2000 Buick Century. He smelled marijuana and the group told the deputy they had stopped so they could smoke. A green leafy substance and a glass pipe were found in the car.

When the deputy had the three suspects exit the vehicle, he uncovered a number of items commonly used in the “one-pot method” of manufacturing methamphetamine, as well as a bottle containing a bubbling liquid that was later identified as methamphetamine.

Plastic bags, coffee filters, a hose and a set of pliers were found in the vehicle, along with a jar with a filter attached and a green plastic bottle containing a white granular substance, possibly table salt, the deputy reported.

Matthew C. Brown, 29, 84 Prentice St., Lockport; Barbara J. Dickenson, 22, 36 Spruce St., Lockport; and Leeanne E. Ferris, 28, 194 Aurora St., Lancaster, were all charged with third-degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine. They were arraigned in Lockport town court and are being held in Niagara County Jail on $2,500 cash or $10,000 bond bail each.

After the bubbling substance was identified as methamphetamine, the Niagara County Drug Task Force was dispatched to the scene and determined that it was unsafe. Wrights Corners volunteer firefighters assisted and the Niagara County Hazmat team responded to remove the methamphetamine and components before the car was towed to the sheriff's office for further investigation.
