Missing North Tonawanda man found safe

Niagara Gazette — A 79-year-old North Tonawanda man missing since Monday was found Thursday in the City of Tonawanda and is back at home, police said.

Ronald Masters was discovered along a section of the Niagara River near the Tonawanda City Police station. He told police that he left his home by choice and wasn't aware there had been a missing persons report issued by his relatives.

Police on Tuesday sent out a photo of Masters and a description of his 2011 Ford Focus after being told by relatives that he had a heart condition, dementia and may be suicidal. But North Tonawanda Police Capt. Tom Krantz said on Thursday that Masters seemed to be in good health and was not in any danger.

"Somebody saw him and called us," Capt. Tom Krantz, of the North Tonawanda Police Department, said. "He did not appear in any way to be suicidal."

Masters told police he had left his home for "personal" reasons and was unaware that a search was being conducted.

"He said, 'I don't watch the news, I don't read the papers, I didn't know,' " Krantz said Masters told police, adding that no charges will be filed.

The discovery comes as Tonawanda Town police search for a missing teenager. Charlotte Miller, 17, was last seen leaving her Tonawanda home on Monday and is believed to be with an individual named Austin Mahon, police said. She contacted police and her parents on Wednesday and may be a run-away. Miller was wearing a a grey hoodie, black Northface jacket and black Ugg boots.

Those with information on Miller's whereabouts can call Detective Raymond Marello at 879-6640.
