Former Buffalo Bandits coach charged with DWI

Former Buffalo Bandits coach Darris J. Kilgour was charged with DWI and several traffic infractions early Sunday morning after being stopped on Saunders Settlement Road in Lewiston.

A deputy stopped Kilgour for traveling 62 mph in a 45 mph zone about 3 a.m. After being pulled over, the deputy said Kilgour appeared intoxicated and failed five field sobriety tests. He told the deputy he had had three beers at a friends house in Niagara Falls and was heading home.

He refused to take a breath test once he was in custody, telling the deputy, "I understand and don't want to take the test."

Kilgour, 43, 4919 Susie Lane, Sanborn, was charged with DWI, speeding and operating a vehicle without a registration or insurance.

Kilgour was also arrested for DWI on May 9, 2011 after Lewiston police found his car in a ditch on Upper Mountain Road.

Kilgour could not be reached for comment Wednesday morning.

Kilgour coached the Buffalo Bandits from 2003 through 2013 but was fired by the team in June. He is a Niagara-Wheatfield graduate and member of the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame. He was the first player ever drafted by the Bandits and later became the first player in NLL history to have his jersey retired.
