Stabbing outside store investigated
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Big-Lots at 5897 S. Transit Road about 2:30 p.m. Sunday for a fight outside the store.
Store staff said that two men were in the store arguing with a man and woman and the four people walked out of the store, at which point the argument escalated into a fight and the man that had been with the woman was stabbed in the upper left portion of his torso.
All four people had fled the area prior to deputies arriving. The two men fled on foot while the man, a 38-year-old Spring Street resident, and woman drove to Eastern Niagara Hospital for treatment.
Sheriff's investigators are looking into the matter.
Alone with $200, 5-year-old found in store
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were called to Tops at 5827 S. Transit Road about 9 a.m. Saturday for a report of a small child alone in the store.
The child was carrying a wallet, later determined to belong to his father, with $200 in it. He told store employees he was there to buy a toy for his sister. The boy's mother arrived at the store just prior to a deputy's arrival. She said they live directly across the street from Tops and she had fallen asleep on the couch. When she awoke, another child in the home told her the 5-year-old had gone to the store.
The child was returned to his mother but a deputy said Child Protective Services was contacted about the incident.
