An unidentified body was recovered from the lower Niagara River on Saturday in the area of Lewiston.

A boater in the river found the body about 8:45 p.m. floating in the water and called police. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office, New York State Parks Police and U.S. Coast Guard responded to remove the body from the water.

It's believed to be a hispanic or black male. The victim was wearing black pants but was carrying no identification. The body was taken to Erie County Medical Center for an autopsy.
