Stolen car found in Wilson — after owner remembers where he left it

A car reported stolen Saturday in Newfane was later found on Harbor Street — after the owner told sheriff's deputies the 1997 Nissan Pathfinder had not been stolen after all.

The owner of the car, a 51-year-old Jockey Road man, told deputies Saturday morning that sometime between 9 p.m. Friday and 7:58 a.m. Saturday. The man said he parked the vehicle behind his home and left it unlocked with the keys in the ignition.

Later Saturday, the man said he had in fact left it parked near the Wilson Boat House after having too much to drink.

The owner said he's diabetic and did not take his medicine before meeting some friends at the restaurant Friday night. After having too many beers, the man said a friend drove him home. When he woke up Saturday morning, he did not see the car and called police.

After taking his medicine and talking to a friend, the car owner told deputies he realized what had happened.

He met deputies on Harbor Street to pick up the car.
