Falls firefighters tackle two overnight fires in the city

Firefighters made quick work of two fires reported overnight in the city.

Members of the Niagara Falls Fire Department were called to 1967 Falls St. about 1:20 a.m. after a fire broke out on a second-floor stairwell.

Fire officials reported the fire was under control by 1:40 a.m. It caused about $10,000 damage to the home and $5,000 damage to its contents.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Three adults living in the home were assisted by the Red Cross.

About 2:50 a.m., firefighters were called to 1150 1/2 Whitney Ave. for a working fire.

Firefighters had that fire under control by 3:10 a.m.

The fire, limited to the second floor of the vacant home, caused about $5,000 damage.

Fire investigators are also investigating the cause of the blaze.
