BUFFALO

Youngstown doctor sentenced in fraud case

Daniel Gillick, 63, of Youngstown has been ordered to surrender his medical license and will serve six months of home detention for scheming with his girlfriend to illegally obtain prescription pills.

In July, the former ER doctor admitted while working at Schuyler Hospital in September 2011, his girlfriend came in and faked a medical condition that would allow Gillick to write a prescription for Dilauded, a controlled substance.

Gillick pleaded guilty to fraud and health care fraud, which carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Gillick's girlfriend, Christine Guilfoyle, was sentenced in November to time served, according to Channel 4 News.

• ROBBERY: Police are investigating an armed robbery in the 2800 block of Pine Avenue. An employee of a convenience store told officers she was working at 4:10 a.m. when she heard someone come in to the business and call her to the front register. When the employee walked to the register, she saw a man holding a black revolver. The suspect demanded cash from the register. The employee told police she gave the suspect a small amount of cash from the register and he ran from the store, heading north on 29th Street.

• THEFT: Officers are looking into a truck break-in in the 8600 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard. A 67-year-old man told police that sometime between 7:30 and 9 p.m. Sunday someone broke into his 2006 Chevy Sierra pickup truck by smashing the driver's-side rear window. The victim said more than $200 in new clothes and a tablet computer were taken.
