Emaciated female dog and puppy found in 12th Street home; owner sought

Niagara Gazette — SPCA of Niagara officials and officers from the Niagara Falls Police Department removed three dogs from a residence on 12th Street Sunday morning.

Two of the three dogs were emaciated, including an 8-week-old Labrador puppy, said to be in critical condition. The dogs were rushed to the SPCA's facility for immediate medical attention.

Conditions inside the home were described as deplorable.

Police were called to the home Sunday by concerned neighbors, according to Amy Lewis, SPCA shelter director.

“The neighbors said they had seen the owner come and go, but it was apparent he wasn't taking care of the (the dogs).” she said.

The three dogs, possibly Labrador-Rottweiler mixes, were a male, a female and the puppy. Lewis said the male was in the best shape of the three. She added that puppy would probably not survived the night had it not been found when it had.

The puppy, believed to be about 7-months-old, weighed 3 pounds, Lewis said.

"It should weigh three or four times that," she said.

Falls police are looking for the owner of the dogs.

The investigation is continuing and an arrest is pending.
