Two killed in 3-vehicle crash in Wilson

Niagara Gazette — WILSON — Two people were killed and a third was injured in a three-vehicle accident on Wilson Burt Road between Maple and Beebe Roads just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a man and woman from Wilson were killed in the accident. The driver of a pickup, from Ransomville, had non-life threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The names were not released allowing officials time to notify family members and investigate the crash. The road was closed and county sheriffs were still on the scene until after sunset.

Sheriff James Voutour said the pickup rear-ended the Saturn which was driven by the woman. Both the car and the pickup traveled about 400 feet after impact.

The pick-up crossed to the other side of the road and slid into the driver’s side of an oncoming car, killing the driver of the Buick sedan. The woman in the first car was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Newfane where she died of injuries.

The driver of the pickup was talking to officers after the accident.

No charges were placed at the site of the accident, but the sheriff indicated that speeding may have been involved.

There was heavy back-end damage to the Saturn.

“It was a bad scene,” said Wilson Fire Chief Russ Jackman, an EMT. There was debris from the vehicles spread about 150 feet and the road was not cleared until about 8 p.m.

Wilson and South Wilson volunteers responded to the scene as well as ambulances from Olcott and Miller Hose Fire companies.
