City woman, 60, reports sex attack Friday

Niagara Gazette — Falls police are investigating a reported attempted rape which occurred in an alleyway late Friday evening.

The alleged victim, a 60-year-old woman who lives in the 400 block of 19th Street, told officers she was walking home from the 1700 block of LaSalle Avenue at 10:30 p.m. when she was stopped by an unknown black man in the alley between Elmwood Avenue and the City Market.

The man reportedly asked her for money, but she told him she didn't have any. She told police he then asked her if she'd perform oral sex on him, to which she just walked away from. She said he then struck her to the ground from behind and ripped her pants and underwear to her knees.

At this point, she said, she fought back and was able to keep the man from raping her.

Officers reportedly had difficulty meeting with the victim that night, as it took three visits before she answered her door. Then, upon speaking to her, the reporting officer noticed no signs of an assault or attempted rape. The officer noted no signs of a struggle on her body and her clothing appeared intact. It was also noted the lack of affect the wet weather of the time in question had on the victim.

Officers also reported visiting the suspected crime scene but driving rain and wind made it impossible to collect any physical evidence which may have been present.
