Facebook status update leads to arrest

A 16-year-old Cambria-Wilson Road teen was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident after posting "Spoiler alert: canal fest gets bombed" in his Facebook status on Sunday.

Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were alerted to the message by a 21-year-old Ransomville resident.

Deputies located the teen at a Maple Road home in Ransomville where he told the deputies he had posted the item as a joke. He said he though it would be a "funny prank" as several of his friends were heading out to Canal Fest.

Deputies then charged the teen. He's due in Cambria town court on Aug. 6.

Deputies noted the teen's mother was at the scene and advised of the situation.
