Sheriff's office charges three with DWI overnight Friday

Niagara County Sheriff's deputies made three driving while intoxicated arrests while out on patrol in the early hours of Saturday morning.

• A deputy stopped Brianne S. Mika, 22, 6371 Robinson Road, Apt. 1, Lockport, was stopped for a traffic violation on South Transit Road about 12:40 a.m. Saturday. She told a deputy she was returning home from a concert at Darien Lake. Mika failed field sobriety tests and was charged. Her blood alcohol content was measured at 0.07 percent at the sheriff's office. She was charged with DWI and the traffic infraction.

• Joseph J. Grady, 23, 110 Hird St., Niagara Falls, was stopped in his driveway after a deputy spotted him driving 63 mph in a 45 mph zone on River Road about 1:45 a.m. Saturday. Once in the driveway, the deputy said Grady tried to walk into his house but was ordered back into the car. Grady told the deputy he was coming home from a taco restaurant and playing hockey. He failed field sobriety tests and tested positive for the presence of alcohol on a breath screen test. Grady then added that he'd also been at a bar in North Tonawanda. A computer check showed his license had been revoked for a previous DWI on Jan. 31. A chemical test administered Saturday morning determined Grady's blood alcohol content to be 0.09 percent. He was charged with DWI, speeding and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

• Paul T. Marus Jr., 35, 742 N. French Road, Amherst, was stopped after a deputy said he nearly struck a tow truck while passing an accident scene on Tonawanda Creek Road. The deputy approached the vehicle and noticed Marus appeared intoxicated. Marus told the deputy he'd had six beers at a bar and was heading home. He failed field sobriety tests and tested positive for the presence of alcohol on a breath screening device. He was charged and brought to the sheriff's office where his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.11 percent. He faces charges of driving while intoxicated.

• In addition, Lockport police made a DWI arrest Friday night following an accident on Pine Street. Michael A. Costello, 31, 6309 Shimer Drive, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI and unregistered motor vehicle about 10:15 p.m. Friday. According to the report, Costello was driving a Silverado after attending the canal concert when he struck a parked car. He failed field sobriety tests and was charged.
