Town of Niagara fire may have been sparked by hot coals

Niagara Gazette — A fire that may have been sparked by hot coals drove a Town of Niagara family from their Edgewood Drive home Friday afternoon.

Officials from the Town of Niagara police department along with Niagara Active Hose, Upper Mountain, Lewiston No. 2 and Frontier Hose fire companies were called to a house fire in the 6300 block of Edgewood Drive about noon Friday. 

When they arrived, they found the house fully engulfed by flame and heavy smoke, according to reports.

Four residents reportedly exited the house without injury.

Damages are estimated at $100,000, according to Chief Daniel Hosie of the Niagara Active Hose Fire Co.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, but residents report cleaning out a fire place earlier Friday morning and placing hot coals in a plastic bucket on the porch.
