Fire destroys vacant McKenna Avenue home, displaces family from neighboring home

A vacant McKenna Avenue home was destroyed and a neighboring house suffered heavy damage after an early Sunday morning fire.

The fire started in 2303 McKenna Ave., around 3 a.m. The house was completely destroyed, with the structure falling into the basement, Niagara Falls Fire officials reported. It is expected to be demolished.

The home at 2305 McKenna also suffered a lot of damage, a fire official said. A family occupying that home was assisted by the Red Cross.

Two men awoke the occupants of the home and got them out of the second house before firefighters arrived, according to reports from the scene.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
