• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a reported burglary between 6:30 p.m. Friday and 8:05 a.m. Saturday from a building in the 2100 block of Fairfield Avenue. The victim, a 49-year-old man, said he found a second-story window broken and heard loud banging from the rear of the building and phoned police. Officer learned the noise was coming from a city Department of Public Works crew working on a sidewalk of the next street down behind the building. With the window broken, officers performed a walkthrough of the building and the owner determined about $2,950 of materials, including miscellaneous copper and brass items, were missing from the building. Officers reported checking a nearby scrapyard, but the owner said he couldn’t find property matching his on the grounds.

• ACCIDENT: Police are investigating a reported hit-and-run traffic accident at 1:40 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of 17th and Niagara streets. The victim told police he was behind a red Jeep stopped at a stoplight when the Jeep reversed into the front driver’s side of his vehicle, performed a u-turn, and drove away on 17th Street and turning numerous times. Officers responding to the scene located the Jeep and witnessed a white male, described as 5-foot-9, wearing a black hoodie, dark shorts and no shoes, walk away from the where it was parked. They report the male fled when officers attempted to question him. Officers lost sight of the man and returned to the vehicle to request it towed. While waiting for response, officers report being approached by a woman who claimed to be the daughter of the registered owner. The daughter provided contact information for the owner after being informed of what happened. When police contacted the owner, they report being told she was at home, but when asked to come outside, she quickly changed her answer to say she was at her daughter’s house and then acted like she couldn’t hear officers on the telephone before communication was lost. The vehicle was then towed, police said.
