Falls police investigating circumstances surrounding man with gunshot wound to leg

Falls police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a man being treated at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his knee.

Officers were called to the ER shortly after midnight on Friday after hospital staff reported a man there with a suspected gunshot wound. Police said the 23-year-old city man was very intoxicated and possibly under the influence of narcotics. They said he was extremely uncooperative and would not give any information on what happened.60

Nurses told police a woman had come in with the man and she was found in a waiting room. She said the victim had called her to say he had been shot in the leg while in the area of 10th Street and Pine Avenue.

Doctors said the man was shot right above the right knee and the bullet exited the leg below the knee. There was no bone damage and he was treated and released.

A doctor advised police that he felt the wound was self-inflicted.
