• ARREST: A Rochester man was arrested following a telephone complaint was responded to between 12:01 and 1:01 a.m. Saturday in the 8500 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard. Joshua Shepard, 26, 269 Pennels Drive, Rochester, was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle after officers were alerted to complaints about a vehicle running with the driver passed out behind the wheel. Upon approaching the vehicle, police said a used needle was visible on the driver's lap and the man was not responding to attempts to wake him. Also visible on another seat, police said, were three additional unused needles. After getting the man awake, police said they asked if he had diabetes or a medical reason for having the needles. He reportedly said no and added "I messed up earlier and shot up some heroin." Police said he was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests, which were failed. He was taken into custody and taken to police headquarters where he refused to submit to a urine test, according to police, adding, "I can tell you what I've taken – it would have weed, cocaine and heroin in it."

• THEFT: Police were called to the scene of a reported theft between 11:30 and 11:45 p.m. Friday at a jewelry store inside a hotel complex in the 300 block of Sixth Street. The victim, an 83-year-old Falls woman, said she was trying on rings and took hers off her finger and placed it on the countertop. She said she looked a minute later but her ring had disappeared. The staff of the store and the customers began looking for it, according to reports, though nothing was found. Hotel security alerted police to the scene depicted on surveillance cameras, which it claims shows the ring falling to the ground from the counter. A woman shopping in the store helping to locate the ring put her foot near the ring's last known location, security said, while continuing to look. Security added the woman then made a move similar to picking something off the ground and putting it in her purse. She then exited with her son while the search continued. Police report questioning the woman in her hotel room, receiving permission to search her purse, with no sign of the ring. She told police she handed something gold from the floor to her son while searching for the ring and he put it back on the counter. Officers said security was unable to provide video footage at the time of the report.

• ARREST: A Kitchner, Ont., man was arrested following a customs stop between 3:58 and 5:10 p.m. Friday at a border crossing. Ashokkumar Dalwadi, 63, 55 Woodvine Ave., Kitchner, Ont., was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired after police said he was visibly unsteady on his feet and a hint of alcohol was detected on his breath after being stopped for questioning. Officers report Dalwadi told them he consumed Crown Royal to combat a cough and cold at 10 a.m. but didn't drink anything else. He failed three of four field sobriety tests, according to police, and tested positive for alcohol during a test administered in the building. He then told police he also had Crown Royal with lunch at 1 p.m. He was taken into custody and a breath test later revealed his blood-alcohol content to be 0.07 percent.

Stopped on Saunders Settlement Road for driving with a suspended registration, Rodriguez appeared intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. After failing her third test, a deputy said Rodriguez refused to do more and said, "arrest me. Put the cuffs on me and take me to jail." Deputies said two alcoholic beverage bottles were found in her car along with drinking glasses also containing alcoholic beverages.
