Man charged after failing to return grandmother's car

A Falls man, who was recently sentenced to a year in jail for violating terms of his probation relating to an animal cruelty case, was charged Saturday by Niagara County Sheriff's deputies after his grandmother said he took her car and failed to return it.

While investigating the missing car, deputies learned that the grandson, Jason E. Evrard, 28, 6683 Walmore Road, and the car were at a Niagara Falls Boulevard motel.

Deputies stopped Evrard as he left a room and held him till the grandmother could retrieve her vehicle. Evrard was then charged with fourth-degree grand larceny under a warrant issued by the Town of Wheatfield.

In August, State Supreme Court Justice Richard Kloch Sr. sentenced Evrard, 28, to a year in jail for admitting he dropped out of drug and alcohol rehab and stopped showing up for meetings with his probation officer.

Evrard was originally charged in connection with a May 2012 incident when he slammed his grandmother’s Lhasa Apso dog to the ground, fracturing its pelvis. He was charged with a single felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals.

In November, 2012, he pleaded guilty to that charge and Kloch sentenced him to five years probation.

Sheriff’s deputies caught up with Evrard on July 11, when they spotted him riding a bike on Stieg Road in Wheatfield. Evrard tried to run from the deputies and was taken into custody after being Tasered.

Evrard was facing charges of resisting arrest  and trespassing, in Wheatfield Town Court, as a result of that incident.

• DWI: Caitlin C. Bimont, 27, 2488 Parker Road, Ransomville, was charged with aggravated DWI and failure to keep right about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, according to sheriff's deputies. Bimont was stopped after deputies responded to a call of a possible drunken driver in the area of Mapleton and Shawnee roads. The deputy said he saw Bimont cross the center line several times before stopping her. She failed several field sobriety tests and her blood alcohol content was measured at 0.24 percent on a breath test. Deputies also noted she had been charged with DWI on Oct. 27, 2006, in the Falls.
