Three men rescued from Lake Ontario waters

YOUNGSTOWN — Three men were pulled from the waters of Lake Ontario after their boat took on water in heavy waves and capsized Saturday afternoon.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a boat in distress by one of the occupants about 2.5 miles north of Youngstown about 3:30 p.m.

U.S. Coast Guard officials sent a rescue boat which found the three men — two 51-year-old men from Wellsville and a 61-year-old Andover man — clinging to the side of the boat. A U.S. Border Patrol helicopter assisted in the search.

They were brought to the Coast Guard station at Youngstown and transported to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The 18-foot Crestliner was not recovered.
